Summer is approaching and it’s time to revel in summer charms. With schools and colleges closed, you have a good chance to travel with your family to a place that has little to do with constantly rising temperatures and is free from many of the hustle and bustle of city life. Vibrant colors, melodious chirping of birds, lush landscapes, flowering plants and a variety of fruits, melting snow on the mountains, lots of water sports on scenic beaches and long walks — these are the beauties of summer. Here is a list of places to visit for those who have not decided where to go with their family for summer vacation in India.

Kashmir

A Kashmiri woman living in the same building where I live once said something over a cup of tea which made me request to go to Kashmir. She said, “Go to Kashmir”, not because many brochures, websites and magazines tell you, but you want to! I have never seen such a divine and perfect beauty anywhere, even in Kashmir. Friendly people and heartfelt hospitality add to the valley’s charm.

So, what to see in Kashmir?? Well, you have four best places to spend your holidays in Kashmir; the first is Pahalgam, the second is Gulmarg, the third is Sonmarg and the fourth is Srinagar. Pahalgam is a great place for families who want to spend their leisure time; there are many hotels and resorts in Pahalgam which are very valuable for money. If you have children over the age of 8, you can go river rafting in the Lidder River or skiing in the Aru Valley. Angling and leisure walks are other activities you can try while in Kashmir.

Ladakh

Ladakh is beautiful, unique and incredible! It’s something you’ve never seen before! A perfect holiday destination in the Himalayas. But I would recommend a family holiday here only to those who think they can handle the mood weather and have older children. This place is as beautiful as it is hard and challenging. The best places to hang out with family in Ladakh are Leh and the regions.

Manali

Needless to say, Manali is exceptionally beautiful! Adding grace to the abundant beauty of Himachal Pradesh is Manali Hill Station, one of the most visited tourist destinations in India. I remember my first trip to Manali and how I fell in love with this place. The snow-capped mountains, the reddish sky of the evening and the picture of the perfect Rohtang Pass, these images are drawing my heart and reminding me of Manali for a long time.

Shimla

Shimla is an ideal place to spend a summer vacation in India. It offers a home away from home experiences and attracts the attention of families who are looking for a comfortable, relaxed stay amidst beautiful surroundings. The reason I choose Shimla as a family vacation destination is that the climate is tolerable in summer (neither too hot nor too cold), there are plenty of ways to dine (all meals are available), plenty of shopping and accommodation options, And less traffic.

There is quiet peace everywhere just do the trick for you! Stay around Mall Road, eat, shop and visit the beautiful church located on the ridge near the mall. Take the time to visit the Jakhu Temple, which is located at the top of a hill and has a huge statue of Hanuman. The Kali Bari temple is another attraction in Shimla; the temple is located in the heart of the city and can be visited on the way to Mall Road.

Don’t forget to take a family photo in traditional attire! It may seem silly at times but it will make a great story later.

Dharamshala

Mighty Dhauladhar does magic for Dharamshala! A quiet valley overlooked by high snow-capped mountains, Dharamshala is dressed in beauty and invites travel enthusiasts to experience the wonders of nature. I vividly remember the summer of May 2011 when my friends decided to buy tickets for the cricket match between Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab. Dharamsala came alive as a movie scene.

There I stood speechless in the HPCA stadium! Cricketers I could see ants crawling on the grass from where I was sitting, but I remember looking around. The high conical mountains were just amazing. I enjoyed every part of my stay at Dharamshala, a quiet and well-built hill station that allows for a perfect vacation, especially with the family. The Kangra Art Museum at Kotwali Bazaar, the War Memorial, the Kunal Pathri Temple and the tea gardens on the way to Kunal Pathri are some of the places worth visiting.

Darjeeling

One of the most popular summer destinations in India, Darjeeling is known as the ‘Queen of the Hills’. Modern day Darjeeling is a busy hub and I can humbly call it, a little crowded. However, the charm of this beautiful place is still young. You can go to the top of Tiger Hill early in the morning to witness the best sunrise in India. A toy train ride is something that can be enjoyed with the whole family.

The train runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling, which is full of fun in a stretch of 70 km. Rock Gardens and Waterfall are nearby and worth a visit. Riding on the Darjeeling-colored passenger cable car or ropeway is a thrilling experience for tourists. Like other hill stations in India, Darjeeling has many ideal places for tourists to eat, stroll and shop: Mall Road or Chorasta is a popular name that immediately comes to mind.

Sikkim

It is often the case that people tend to ignore the North East when planning summer vacations in India, although this part of the country has some of the best summer destinations in India. Sikkim is one of the most beautiful northeastern states; this second smallest state in the country has a lot to offer its visitors. There are numerous places in India to choose from for the ideal summer vacation: Pelling, Rawangla and Gangtok are some of the best places to travel with family in the North East.

Mussoorie

Located at an altitude of 2000 meters, Mussoorie has always been a popular tourist destination in India. Green rolling hills and a variety of vegetation make it no less than a fairyland. Mussoorie becomes very dense.

In summer, so it is better to book a hotel in advance. While enjoying a ride on the ropeway or cable car, which takes you to Gun Hill, capture the stunning panoramic view of Mussoorie.

Mall Road is very attractive as this place allows tourists to purchase various gift items for their family members and friends to take with them. Another interesting place to visit in Mussoorie is Kempty Falls, where you can enjoy a dip under a huge waterfall. Apart from this Cloud End and Red Dunes must be seen in Mussoorie.

Nainital

When I was in school, summer was the best time! My friends and I were going for a stroll on Mall Road in Nainital in the evening according to the religious routine. The evening was a very crowded time, when most of the tourists in Nainital were flocking to the upper and lower mall roads. Being local, we people will wear our best clothes to look like a tourist.

Those were crazy days! We don’t know about the tourists but the evening sky, the twinkling lights around the lake and the cheerful crowd made our day. Nainital is a small hill station situated at an altitude of about 1,938 m above sea level. The centrally located lake in Nainital is a major attraction; Boating is one of the things that is very much enjoyed by the tourists here.

In addition to being an ideal summer resort, it is also one of the richest honeymoon destinations in the country. Mahabaleshwar is blessed with lush greenery and serene atmosphere which allows one to spend full holidays with family.

The eucalyptus district crown, Uti is just about that! As the queen of hill stations in South India, this destination is known for providing tourists with ample options to look ahead. The magnificent landscape and pleasant climate make it one of the most popular hill stations in South India.

The Western Ghats are kind enough to provide Uti with the right atmosphere and beauty, if you are traveling with your family in Uti, don’t miss out on places like Botanical Gardens, Lake Park, Deer Park, Doddabetta. Kalhatti Falls and Pykara Lake and Falls. You can enjoy playing snooker and golf in Ooty with activities like fishing, trekking and horse racing.

The summer holidays in Munnar, Kerala are well spent. Scattered tea gardens, lush green hills and a healthy atmosphere do the magic for Munnar. Enjoy a holiday with family in Munnar; Visit Pothamedu, where you are greeted by a vast expanse of tea, coffee and cardamom.

Coonoor

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few days, Coonoor in Tamil Nadu is the place for you. Mysteriously the place understands the need for people to get some peace of mind. Away from the ever-increasing mercury and inevitable traffic of India’s cities, Coonoor warmly welcomes its visitors and offers them a quiet environment and natural beauty to keep an eye on.
